More than 260 painters, sculptors, dancers, actors, playwrights, musicians, architects and other artists accepted the invitation of the Vatican for an audience with Pope Benedict XVI on 21 November. Collection under Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Sistine Chapel will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the letter of Pope John Paul to artists and 45th anniversary of the meeting of Pope Paul VI with representatives of the artistic community. With the international committee, the Vatican selected 500 artists from around the world to call this meeting. “Invitations are based on leadership in the field rather than a contribution to religion.” Said Archbishop Gianfranco Ravatzi, president of the Pontifical Council for Culture. “Due to timing difficulties associated with travel and the fact that the Vatican did not offer compensation for your time, most of those who accepted the invitation are Italians.” Added the archbishop. At a press conference given on November 5, the Council announced that it has received confirmation of the presence of 262 artists at the moment. Among them are: Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor, artist, known for his installations John David Mooney, the Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, the French writer and actress Della Florence, the U.S. video artist Bill Viola, the Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt, the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, American actor F .
